Samantha and David Cameron have splashed out £2m for a Cornwall holiday home in the village of Trebetherick. The village of Trebetherick is perched just above Daymer Bay and is close to David Cameron’s favourite body-boarding beach at Polzeath.
The Cameron’s are big fans of holidays around Polzeath and Rock. Apparently, a holiday house in Cornwall has been a dream on their bucket-list for some time. The new purchase means they join many other famous people with holiday homes in the area, including Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana, who actually have two houses nearby.
Daymer Bay, on the East of the river Camel estuary, is a brilliant, safe and sheltered beach for children with plenty of sand, tiny waves and net friendly rock pools. It’s also great for dogs, who are allowed on the beach all year round. There is plenty of parking right next to the beach, public toilets and a small shop and café.
It’s also a great place to walk to or from. Head North on the Cornish coastal path and you’ll wind round the coast to Polzeath or beyond. Head South on the path, or the beach at low tide, and you’ll reach Rock and the ferry to Padstow. Either way you’re likely to be walking in the footsteps of poet laureate, John Betjeman, who spent time in Trebetherick from childhood, had a house in Daymer Lane and is buried in the nearby St Enodoc Church.
It’s been reported that David Cameron is expecting to pay for his Cornwall holiday house from the advance and royalties for his memoirs, which he’s been busy writing. The rumour is he has already been paid £1m. Not one to be idle, as you might expect, David Cameron is also doing unpaid roles as chairman of the National Citizen Service and president of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
