The parish of St Minver

St Minver is the name of the parish in the popular holiday area of North Cornwall which includes the famous villages of Rock and Polzeath as well as St Minver village itself. It is also close to Padstow and Wadebridge.

Glen Valley holiday cottage is at Treglyn Farm, a couple of minutes’ drive from St Minver village and with easy access to Rock, Polzeath, Daymer Bay and the rest of that part of the Cornish coast.

The area is famed for its sandy beaches, stunning coastal walks, fine restaurants and water sports. The quaint harbour town of Padstow, just a short ferry ride from Rock, has become a popular attraction for visitors to Cornwall.

The parish of St Minver is split into two, St Minver Highlands to the North East and St Minver Lowlands to the South West. The South and East of the parish is bordered by the River Camel estuary and to the North is the Atlantic coast. You will find a map of St Minver here.

There are three interesting churches in the parish. These include St Enodoc church nestled near sand dunes on the St Enodoc golf course. Former poet laureate, John Betjeman, is buried in the churchyard. On the South Shore of the Camel Estuary, in Porthilly Cove, is the similarly strangely situated St Michael’s church. Both churches were substantially restored in the 1860’s.

The village of St Minver

The tall-spired St Minver village church is named after St Menefreda, a 5th century Cornish saint, from whom the name St Minver also derives. The church dates back to the 13th century and features traditional Norman and early English architectural styles. More history of the church can be found here.

The St Minver village pub is The Fourways Inn. This old-world character pub and restaurant is on the crossroads at the centre of the village. It’s advisable to book for dinner in high season. (The Fourways Inn, St. Minver, Near Rock, Wadebridge, Cornwall. PL27 6QH. Telephone: 01208 862384)
