Port Eliot Festival 2017, St. Germans, 27 – 30 July

The Port Eliot Festival organisers say ‘we’ll celebrate words, music, imagination, ideas, nature, food, fashion, flowers, laughter, exploration, fun and all that is good in the world!’.

If you fancy hanging out at a ’boutique’ and eccentric festival this summer, this could certainly be it. At Port Eliot Festival you and your family will be welcomed as guests and entertained in style in the park and woodland gardens of the stately home estate, which it’s believed Napoleon said was most beautiful place in England.

Apparently, Port Eliot Festival, which began with 17 guests in 2003, is now a lot bigger and quite an unusual affair, boasting a line up of ‘books, food, music, art, comedy, fashion, films, flowers, wildlife and water’. Plus, you’ll be walking in the footsteps of the Augustinian monks who inhabited the mediaeval monastery in South East Cornwall.

The Port Eliot Festival promises entertainment and fascination for all ages from dawn till late:

  • Listening and foot-tapping to the music
  • Canoeing on the river
  • Visiting exhibitions
  • Taking tours around the rooms
  • Camping in your own tent
  • Swimming in the estuary
  • Hiring an Airstream caravan, tipi, yurt even a gypsy bowtop caravan
  • Dancing late at the cabaret
  • Watching cooking demos
  • Picnicking amongst the trees
  • Exploring pastures, woodland, estuary, riverside, rhododendron groves, mazes and walled gardens

The activities, music and entertainment programme at the Port Eliot Festival list is so long and eclectic that we’ll have to pass you on to their website to see it all. Information and weekend and day tickets are available here.

The Port Eliot Estate is 54 minutes’ drive from Glen Valley Cottage. That’s good for a day trip if you’re staying at our cottage or to extend your stay in Cornwall after camping out at the festival.
