The Great Estate festival – exuberance amongst the Camellia – Redruth, Cornwall – 2 to 4 June 2017

Claiming to be ‘The Most Rambunctious Garden Fete’, the inaugural Great Estate event dates are 2 to 4 June 2017, at Scorrier House, Cornwall, near Redruth.

It sounds like the peace and quiet of Scorrier House and its gardens, famed for exotic plants and amazing Camellia walks, is about to be shattered. This is clearly not your average garden fete.

Maybe, like me, rambunctious, isn’t a word you use. So I looked up the meaning of rambunctious on Oxford Living Dictionaries and found it means ‘Uncontrollably exuberant; boisterous’. So that gives a hint about what to expect.

Then there’s the somewhat unusual mix of activities and entertainment described on the Great Estate website. Alongside major headline acts Echo and the Bunnymen and Electric Swing Circus, the list includes:

  • Comedy shows
  • Food stalls
  • Exhibition and shops
  • Woodland silent disco
  • The secret gin garden hosted by award winning Tarquin’s Dry Gin
  • Burlesque and hula hoop from performer Talulah Blue
  • Dead Beats Poetry Corner
  • Madame Wong’s House of Wrong
  • Camel racing
  • Classical corner
  • Craig Charles Funk and Soul Tent
  • Wood fired Hot Tubs from Kernow Springs
  • Tattoo Parlour
  • Swamp Circus
  • Hot Air Balloon Rides
  • Cornish Wrestling
  • Sea Shanties
  • Wellness area
  • Spa and massage
  • Yoga sessions
  • Meditation classes
  • Three course dinner with wine by Wild Wine Club

It’s an eclectic and impressive programme. Find out more at the Great Estate Festival website.
